Oeste & Tejo Valley

Western Region: Vineyards and the Sea.
Comprising the municipalities of Alenquer, Arruda dos Vinhos, Bombarral, Cadaval, Caldas da Rainha, Lourinhã, Óbidos, Peniche, Rio Maior, Sobral de Monte Agraço and Torres Vedras, the region is united by a common culture and a very strong attachment to land and sea.
Archaeological sites, from prehistoric caves to Cooperage Castles, Arab age Castles and Roman villages, aqueducts and bridges. Medieval Churches and Monasteries, 15th century Forts, 17th and 18th centuries manor houses and also a number of Fortifications from the period of the French Invasions. 
For nature lovers, walking tracks, are prepared and signalised in agreement with the European rules and also with a total extension of 120 km, between Salir do Porto and the area of the Protected Landscape in Serra de Montejunto.
In Paúl de Tornada (Environment Interpretation Center), located in the Natural Reserve of Berlenga Island (the only one maritime reserve of the country), or in Serra do Socorro, the espeleologic and alpinism lovers can enjoy themselves. On the other side, Lagoa de Óbidos (Lagoon), offers excellent conditions to the active practice of nautical sports.
Some attractions of the Region, includes: the Sea gastronomy with excellent restaurants/fish-pond of Peniche and Lourinhã/Porto das Barcas and the gastronomical influence of the convent is evident in egg rolls and cavacas (light crisp cakes) from Caldas da Rainha, been pies from Torres Vedras and sponge cakes from Lendal, Painho and Rio Maior; the handicraft, that we can highlight the Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro ceramic from Caldas da Rainha and the bobbin lace (most distinguished craft) from Peniche.
Oeste (West) is today, a future enthusiastic new destination for golf and also one of the largest wine-growing areas in Portugal and in the World.
The Oeste region is privileged in several aspects, one of those is its wonderful seaside, where the exceptional beaches of delicate sand, cliffs and places of rare beauty, like the Berlengas archipelago and the calm Lagoa de Óbidos (lagoon) . Places that make the delice of the visitants.
A Region with many colours: the green of the vineyards, the blue of the sea and the golden sands of the beaches. It is a territory full of intense luminosity where the seacoast and the countryside make a special double par to offer a pleasant climate along all year.
